Morawa District High School Brass Band
Morawa District High School Brass Band, the only Public School Brass Band in Western Australia, has a long and proud history spanning over fifty years.
The Brass and Percussion Music Program commences for students in Year 5 and continues through to Year 12. Two ensembles, a Senior Brass Band (Years 6-12) and a Junior Brass Band (Years 5-8), allows both experienced and novice music students to enjoy learning at a level that challenges them. The Senior Band rehearse once per week after school and the Junior Band once per week during school hours.
Instrumental and Ensemble Music for Brass and Percussion is a practical course where instrumental musicianship skills are developed through weekly small group instrumental music lessons. The Brass Instrumental Course provides for the six year levels from Year 5 – 10 and is taught from beginners. Years 11 and 12 students enrol in the PIMS course for WACE credit. Brass instruments that students can choose to play are cornet, tenor horn, baritone, euphonium, trombone and tuba. Percussion includes drum kit, timpani and hand-held percussion instruments.
The Ensemble component of the course is covered through compulsory participation and performance with the Junior and/or Senior Brass Band.
The Junior Brass Band performs at Primary School assemblies.
The Senior Brass Band performs both at School events at Open Night and assemblies and in the community at WABA State Band Championships in Perth, ANZAC Day ceremonies in Morawa and Perenjori, Mingenew Expo, WA College of Agriculture Morawa Open Day and at surrounding Primary Schools.
A combined Morawa DHS Brass Band includes younger Morawa DHS students and brass students from Mingenew Primary School for their first major performance to play at the Geraldton Bands Spectacular.
